Survivor Guilt

No normal human beings enjoys laying people off. It is a soul-crushing experience.

Which, in our system, might lead to some perverse consequences. I can't help but wonder to what extent sociopaths are self-selected for upper management.

This is not to say that CEOs are all psychopaths or that even a majority of them are evil. But it's one thing to reluctantly lay people off, and it's another to do this:
After a day of bloodletting, one of the bosses cornered me in the hallway. Did I get a sexual thrill out of firing people, he wanted to know, because it had always worked for him, big time.
Sometimes I wonder to what extent is human evolution is affected by how we organize. and I'm not sure this is a good indicator of where we are going....
