As it turned out, steering a dragonboat on the east coast is a lot different from the west. Here it is the steerer that calls out the power-10's.
This leads to another technological difference: they wire up a crew-type speaker system so the entire boat can hear the steerer during the race.

Yang, did you have an "ask an economist" feature on your blog? If so, here is my question.
The BLS just published their April 2010 CPI, which is 218.009. The March 2010 CPI is 217.631, and April 2009 is 213.240. The BLS data is available here.
How does that square with a drop of 0.1 percent, as reported in the media, e.g. by Bloomberg or The Washington Post?
The latest BLS data are non-seasonally adjusted numbers.
From the press release:
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 2.2 percent over the last 12 months to an index level of 218.009 (1982-84=100). For the month, the index rose 0.2 percent prior to seasonal adjustment.
The publicized numbers are of course seasonally adjusted. You can probably replicate the seasonalized numbers using proc x12 in SAS and see how close you get to that .001 MtoM...
