"Between $13 million and $20 million will be available to each of 12 teams that have expressed interest in the funds, commissioner David Stern said Thursday. The money can be used for any purpose, including helping teams deal with operating losses incurred because of the economy."

I'm guessing the coropoate accounts took a huge hit....
Now we can't have the gladiators not fight. How are we going to keep the crowds entertained. Hell if they stop, people might actually have to start thinking about other stuff... can't have people's thoughts wonder into reality.
It's nothing new, folks. Ever heard the term "bread and circusses"?
In the final years of a decaying Roman Empire, the Emperor had to keep the people occupied, not thinking of all the bad news etc. So free bread given out at the chariot races at "Circus Maximus" filled the bill.
It means distract and dull vox populi. Then do whatever you want.
Just the way the people elected to Washington have been doing for decades. Fleecing us and feathering their own digs.
