Failed Banks

FDIC's failed bank list gives you a sense how tough 2008 has been for banks:
# of Failed Banks
2008 (YTD) 9
2007 3
2006 0
2005 0
2004 4
2003 2
2002 12
2001 4

2008 is on track to be 2002. That's of course small comfort considering that 2002 followed a recession year.

10 bank failures now.

FDIC announces 10th bank failure of the year. Georgia's Integrity Bank is closed by state regulators. FDIC is named receiver and branches will reopen as Regions Bank.

From the AJC article[1], it looks like they were done in by the housing bubble...
