AIG Asks for Another $37.8B

So that adds up to $122.8B in total.

From the blurb above, AIG was not hit with a loss event, but rather that skittish investors handed $37.8B worth of investment grade securities back to AIG and demanded to be cashed out. The Fed will have these "investment-grade" securities as collateral. Although it remains to be seen just how aaa these things are.

As an aside. AIG is planning to sell $32B worth of its assets; Citi is planning to sell $400B of its assets. Anyone else with a Warren-Buffet-like cash advantage might come up huge during this fire sale period.
